Ok, I admit it. I like watching a train just go around in circles. I find it relaxing.
A few months back, I was given a bunch of basic track, rolling stock, broken locomotives and buildings. A lot went into the trash, I plan on using a lot of scenery components on the up comming Playa Desnuda.
Below is a small, rolling hills layout that I have started. All track is old Atlas sectional Code 80, and it is on a 2×4 sheet of plywood with one inch foam.
My goal with this layout is to watch a small train of five or six cars, with rolling Southern California hills, similar to Piru or Fillmore. I am still trying to come up with a name (in Spanish) for this display layout. I thought about Macho Grande, but I am still not over it. The only thing that I know for sure, it will have Arroyo in the name. Arroyo Seca is a real place, so that is not going to be it.
It was quite relaxing to watch my Atlas ALCO S4 pull a short freight while listening to Charlie Parker, but it also made me realize that I need to buy a lot of caboose for this and Playa Desnuda. I figure that I will need about five Micro-Trains wood caboose, two Atlas steel caboose with a Shapeways shell and two Model Power bay windows, all with 1953 appropriate paint. Surprisingly, all MTL Southern Pacific wood caboose that I found have either the orange ends or 1958 letters.
