Finally getting back to the Bachmann 2-8-0

Over a year ago, I decided to try to make my Bachmann 2-8-0 look more like my Oriental Limited C-9, and quite frankly, there are a lot of little changes…

As you can see from the above picture, the Bachmann (below) is larger, the sand dome is in the wrong spot and is the wrong shape, the running board is not correct, plus the cab has different details. I am going to completely ignore the cylinders and running gear…after all, this is an N scale loco for home use, not a contest model.

I was able to get some extra boilers, cabs and tenders for this project, and I started off removing the details from the cab roof (I botched this cab, so glad that I had 2 more) and I cut into the sand dome and worked it loose with an X-Acto knife. I used the same knife to cut down the tender, I decided to model a Clear Vision tender, similar to those that the 4-8-0’s used. Tony Thompson built a model of 2829 in HO with this style of tender, and it is such a unique SP look.

While still an obvious work in progress, you can see how she is getting closer, and as long as the two are not too close together, they do look like they are in the same family.

looks rough now, but I still have a lot of filler and sanding to go.
